Bureaucratic Eye Opener? Was for Me.
Here is a list of California State agencies. We all have our "special interest", that is important to us. Many of us care deeply about ecology, the arts, higher education, etc. I'm not claiming that any of these are agencies that shouldn't exist. I'm just saying this list is over-dog-gone-whelming the first time that I saw it, so I'm posting it up. This has obviously not been sustainable Continue Reading
Truckee Real Estate Market Year End Sales Statistics
The year end market data for Truckee Real Estate has been compiled, and 2010 can be summarized as, "not great". The median price for Truckee homes declined 9%. Less than the 15% in 2009 but still a fair decline. The good news is that 2011 is forecasted to actually turn around and start growing, albeit slowly. It’s always risky to make specific forecasts because there are so many factors Continue Reading
Time for a Change…
After 8 years of independent real estate brokerage, including 5 years of owning my own real estate company here in Truckee, I am now back under a big corporate umbrella. Coldwell Banker has taken over Pacific Crest Properties, and it really seems like a good thing. In many ways, the "Mom & Pop" business model which I/we formally embraced is a failing model. There once was a time in 2004 when Continue Reading

Sunset Magazine Ranks Truckee in List of West’s Best Ski Towns.
December 24, 2010 Most well-rounded: Truckee, California Keeping a low-pro just 13 miles north of Life List-worthy Lake Tahoe is this unritzified ski town -- despite the swank Ritz at Northstar up the street. The historic main drag can please teenagers and grandparents alike, with a Blue Bottle Coffee-loving cafe (Elijah Bleu's), jazz lounge (Moody's) and a growing number of tasting Continue Reading

Are Truckee Home Loan Rates Going Up?
This is what the folks at Wells Fargo have to say... Last week, Congress was busy at work on negotiations to extend the Bush-era tax cuts. That news kept a lid on any improvement for Bonds and home loan rates, due to the prospect of an ever-increasing deficit. And adding to the troubles for Bonds and home loan rates last week was news that inflation is growing in China... and growing fast. How Continue Reading
Tahoe Donner Home Sales See Rays of Sunshine
I was reading an appraisal this morning for some clients who are purchasing a home in Truckee, and the appraiser referred to some stats about distress sales, and the fact that they appear to be declining in our market. That got me wondering about the "real" numbers, so I did a few calculations for homes in Tahoe Donner. These are just stats for homes in Tahoe Donner, not condos. Distressed Continue Reading
Climbing Out
We had a local Truckee home lender come to the office meeting this morning. There was the usual, "rates are great", "there's never been a better time to buy", "under-writing is a giant hassle" stuff that has been the norm for what seems like a couple of years now. But, there are also some new loan products, and options for jumbo loans that have been non-existent for a while. The rates are going Continue Reading
